Postsecondary Transition Strategies for Students
With Asperger Syndrome

Presented by Barbara T. Doyle

School districts are legally obligated to prepare students with Asperger syndrome for life after high school. But recent legal cases show that districts struggle to provide FAPE and critical life skills to these students. What's more, transition plans and programs often emphasize skills that prove counterproductive in postsecondary settings. Ensure your district is armed with the practical know-how to effectively develop and individualize transition programming for students with Asperger syndrome.

In this lively presentation, education consultant Barbara T. Doyle will help school administrators and their staffs improve decision-making in this area. Through real-life examples, you’ll learn practical, ready-to-implement transition planning strategies and get useful "take-away" materials so that your teams can:

  • Set, prioritize and individualize postsecondary transition goals and objectives
  • Determine essential social and daily living skills needed for post high school pursuits
  • Recognize and address safety skills that demand immediate attention
  • Determine the best techniques to teach essential employment skills such as multitasking and task transition
  • Understand how and why some types of skills instruction can hinder social, academic and career success
  • Identify common misconceptions about high-functioning students that can hamper transition efforts
  • Access checklists of priority safety and social skills to guide determinations

Plus, dedicated Q&A time gives you the opportunity to get direct answers to your questions.
